This section is for mental and physical health support. This includes services to deal with depression and stress, access therapy, sleep aids, meditation, coping skills, free health clinics and services.

Medical

  • FreeClinics.com has a list of free and income based medical and dental clinics in Essex County

  • Planned Parenthood supports free women’s health clinics in Essex County

  • NJ Department of Health - Family Health hotline at 800-328-3838 runs M-F 8am to 6pm provides info and referrals for health screening and treatment.

  • All youth and adults that are sexually active should be tested regularly for STD’s. If your regular healthcare provider isn’t doing this then you can go to a Planned Parenthood clinic (for men and women) or go to the CDC website for a list of free clinics near you. Mental Health

Addiction

  • ReachNJ.GOV - New Jersey’s Addiction Helpline - has information on addiction, preventing an overdose, finding a recovery center, helping a loved one
    24/7 Helpline Call: 844-732-2465 for support and treatment options

  • Stop Overdoses - NJ allows anyone 14 years or older to acquire free naloxone anonymously in participating pharmacies to treat overdoses

  • PerformCare can refer and authorize substance use treatment services for eligible youth who meet the clinical criteria for treatment. Please call PerformCare at 1-877-652-7624 for more information about eligibility.

  • Start provides free home visitations and telehealth support and treatment for pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorders. Call 732-427-0009. Treatment is provided by The Center for Great Expectations.

Disability

  • NJ Children’s System of Care (SOC) administered by PerformCare has services for children with behavioral health and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Visit their website or call 877-652-7624 for more information
